Although Dr. Fleming has done fat grafting for over 25 years, he has expanded the use of fat transplantation both to contour and to augment many different areas of the face and body.
Lack of fullness in the lips can be an inherited characteristic or the result of the aging process. Fat augmentation will make the lips look fuller and softer. In most of the patients who have lip augmentation the result is permanent; in the some patients more fat may be necessary at a later time. Lips can also be augmented, contoured and fine lines eliminated with the use of different dermal fillers.
Fat transplantation may also be used to fill in the depressions and wrinkles which develop on the back of hands. This condition is caused by a loss of fat and decreased elasticity of the skin. The procedure gives permanent improvement, in most cases, in the contour of the hands.
Fat can also be used to fill the hollowness under the eyes, to fill depressions in the cheeks or the grooves from the nose to the mouth, known as the nasolabial folds. Dr. Fleming has even developed a new procedure called Cleavoplasty to soften the bony area of the chest between the breasts.
Although fat transplantation will not replace other cosmetic procedures such as facelifts, forehead and eyebrow lifts or chemical peels, it will soften depressions, fill furrows and frown lines, and improve contour problems. Fat transfers are often used in conjunction with traditional procedures for even more enhanced results.
