Submental liposuction is a procedure to help remove the excess fatty tissue beneath the chin, restoring a more elegant, natural neck contour. Submental liposuction can be performed in conjunction with a neck lift, or on its own. During the procedure, fat is vacuumed out of the body through a slender tube known as a cannula. The neck liposuction procedure is an outpatient procedure. This can be done either under local or general anesthesia. Small incisions are made underneath the chin to access the fat.
Downtime for submental liposuction is about one week. You may experience some slight bruising, tenderness, and tightness, but these symptoms will abate within around 7-10 days.
